AES EEG Essentials

Learn or improve your EEG interpretation skills at your pace, your way

AES EEG Essentials is a free online curriculum comprised of 25 learning modules—a fundamental curriculum of 18 modules, and two add-on curricula containing additional modules that can be completed as supplemental learning where more or more advanced study may be desired.

A 2020 review of Medicare claims data in 16 states notes that the average time between first seizure and first diagnosis was 19.2 months. Diagnostic delay has been associated with reduced quality of lifeimpaired cognitionphysical injuries, and increased risk of mortality.

The EEG Essentials curriculum was designed to advance the diagnostic skills of healthcare providers, both specialists and non-specialists, who care for people with epilepsy; and ultimately, to close the diagnostic gap and address widespread misdiagnosis.

Description

AES EEG Essentials takes a systematic and structured approach toward teaching and learning EEG interpretation. These free self-paced curricula consist of 25 modules across several EEG-related topics. AES EEG Essentials does not offer CME or CEU credit.

Each module consists of:

  • 1 brief didactic lecture, focused topic overview, 15-30 minutes in length

  • Offer learning and self-assessment opportunities for a wide range of learners
  • Act as an online supplement to institutional and in-person learning experiences
  • Serve as a curriculum on EEG learning for uniform and comparable learning experiences across the United States

Target Audiences

  • Primary:  Adult and Pediatric Neurology Junior Residents
  • Secondary:  Fellows (Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy), Practicing neurologists, Epilepsy researchers with interest in human EEG

EEG/Neurodiagnostic Technologists are encouraged to contact ASET-The Neurodiagnostic Society to learn about the ASET Core EEG Curriculum (EEG 200-212 online courses). ASET’s comprehensive courses are based on the ASET National Competency Skill Standards for Performing Electroencephalography.
