Rationale: A number of AEDs are well known for their teratogenicity when taken by women of reproductive age. However there are no studies in the literature looking at male AED use and whether they have an effect on childhood development, which would be very useful to us as clinicians when advising our male patients on treatment regimens. Methods: This is a retrospective, questionnaire-based study looking to investigate whether paternal AED use is associated with increased incidence of birth defects or developmental delay in children., All male patients over the age of 18 seen in the Epilepsy clinic at Mount Sinai Medical Center will be enrolled. Controls will be age matched males seen in the neurology clinic not taking AEDs. We expect 300 subjects total to meet the inclusion criteria, including 150 in the experimental and 150 in the control group. IRB approval has been obtained. Results: To be determined Conclusions: To be determined Funding: No funding.
