CHICAGO – Annapurna Poduri, MD, MPH has been elected to the American Epilepsy Society (AES) board of directors beginning at the conclusion of the Society's annual meeting in Chicago (Dec. 3-7, 2021). A medical and scientific society of more than 4,200 members, the AES is dedicated to advancing research and education for preventing, treating, and curing epilepsy.

Dr. Poduri is director of the Programs in Neurogenetics and Epilepsy Genetics at Boston Children’s Hospital and professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Her research interests focus on understanding the genetic causes of human epilepsy and evaluating the contribution of epilepsy and its genetics to sudden death.

Dr. Poduri has served on numerous AES councils and committees including as chair of the Epilepsy Research Benchmark Stewards Committee (2018-2020), a contributing editor to Epilepsy Currents (2013-2018), an early-career grant reviewer (2016-2018), and a member of the Investigators Workshop Committee (2015-2017), Pediatric Content Committee (2016-2018), Scientific Program Committee (2014-2015) and Genetics Task Force (2008-2009).

Dr. Poduri earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed her residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She completed her fellowship in electrophysiology and pediatric epilepsy at Boston Children’s Hospital. She received her M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health, and her undergraduate degree in Biology from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
